Construction IT has to work in two places at once: a settled head office and a rotating set of sites that exist for months, have no fixed infrastructure and are frequently outside reliable coverage. Very little standard office IT design survives contact with that.

A new site typically has no fixed line and patchy mobile signal, yet needs drawings, variations and photographs moving the same day. Temporary connectivity, cellular failover and offline-tolerant working matter more here than raw office bandwidth.

Drawings are large, versioned, and expensive to get wrong
Design files are big and change often, and building from a superseded revision is a costly mistake. The technology question is controlled access to the current version from a site device, which is a synchronisation and permissions problem rather than a storage one.

Site hardware is dropped, rained on and occasionally stolen. Device encryption, remote wipe and a fast replacement path are worth more than specification, because the realistic failure mode is loss rather than obsolescence.
