Safeguarding duties that reach into the network itself
Education is the one sector where filtering and monitoring are a safeguarding obligation rather than an IT choice. Since 2023 the Department for Education's filtering and monitoring standards have expected settings to assign clear responsibility, review provision at least annually and be able to evidence that it works.
Meeting the standard is less about buying a product and more about being able to show a governor or inspector who owns it, when it was last reviewed and what happened when something was flagged. That is a documentation and reporting question as much as a technical one.
Migrations do not happen in the first week of September. Work has to land in holidays, which compresses delivery into fixed windows and makes planning matter more than pace. We schedule around the academic calendar rather than ours.
